Carole & Tuesday Episode 3: Finding a DJ
Published on April 27, 2019
My general opinion on this series hasn't changed much. I think it's a lot of fun to watch. As with previous episodes, I like how the series approaches contrasting similar situations just by putting scenes next to each other. Additionally, there's a surprising number of Western references, which makes it more entertaining to pay attention. It's hitting at many of the things I like to see in a series.
I think it's funny to see the sharp difference between Roddy from the previous episode and Tuesday's family here. Roddy finds Tuesday's exact address within minutes, but Tuesday's brother is having trouble despite presumably having access to more expensive searching techniques.
Similarly, Angela's continuing issues with her new manager are shown next to a scene where Carole and Tuesday meet Gus. The two sides are equally suspicious of their new manager, but we see the clear difference in the managers' individual behaviors with Gus taking a more personal approach.
Along the same lines, Angela, Carole, and Tuesday go through voice training at the same time. Carole and Tuesday are suspicious of the shoddy yoga session they're in, but at least they're not being threatened with lasers and drills, right? As before, I think it's a fun contrast.
The whole thing with Ertegun also makes a lot of sense in the context of the series. We saw Roddy and Ertegun talking last week, so it's clear that the two are at least friendly with each other. It also explains why Roddy's first suggestion to the girls was to find a DJ to get their song out. I guess I feel like things are coming together well.
I'm not entirely sure what to make of the final scene. Ertegun's reaction to the song isn't super surprising, but Tuesday's reaction to him was. I wonder if the scene where she burns the sheet music is meant to imply that she somewhat accepts that she's not quite ready yet. Although, I'm guessing the simple interpretation is that she was saying that the song's not good enough for Ertegun, which would be interesting as well.

June 24, 2019, 12:39 p.m.The distinguishing scenes are really interesting in this show and a simple method of storytelling that I am fond of. The contrast between Roddy's ability to find Tuesday and her brother's ability to find her is partially hitting on the point that money doesn't necessarily mean better results. Rather the talent that money can purchase matters more. In fact, I think this point expands more and more throughout the series.
