Summer 2018 Grab Bag Week 7: Shingeki no Kyojin S3, Juushinki Pandora

I suppose I can call this grab bag the post-apocalyptic edition.

Shingeki no Kyojin S3 Episode 5

Politics can get a bit iffy in anime, but this season has been handling things pretty well so far. As I said the last time, shifting the focus back towards human-to-human interactions makes for an interesting change of pace, and this episode was particularly cool. I really liked Erwin's plan to use the council's own actions to prove his point to Pixis and the other soldiers. It's a huge gamble, and he fully respects that fact.

This might be my favorite line in the series. Well played, Pixis.

Not to be a downer or anything, but the whole deal with the royal line and the Reiss family isn't really a fun memory from the manga. So, I think the next part of the story is going to be less fun (for me, at least).

Juushinki Pandora Episode 19

It's been a really long time since I last talked about this series. Honestly, I think this series ends up being pretty mid-tier for me. I enjoy it more than I expected, but there are still plenty of problems. I think the series tries too hard to mix the mysticism with the technobabble, so the end result becomes worse. I was hoping for mysticism grounded in science, but we end up with mysticism that's explained away with science jargon.

In this episode in particular, Leon's condition is a pretty confusing one. The previous episode ended with a pretty hard cliffhanger, and Leon's just okay at the beginning of this one.

To be fair, the idea of humans reaching the evolutionary stage along with the B.R.A.I. isn't that bad. However, I think this idea isn't fully set up, and the fact that Sieg forces it to happen makes it feel cheap.
