Summer 2018 Grab Bag Week 4: Shingeki no Kyojin, Hanebado

Continuing my trend of being super random.

Shingeki no Kyojin S3 Episode 2

This season has had a pretty solid start. The series immediately shifts away from the Titans and focuses more on conflicts between people. While I had some issues with the previous season, I have to admit that it's a great way to lead into this conflict. The previous season established that Titans are humans, so the moral dilemmas in this season force the characters to really evaluate their views. Also, Levi's "action" scene in this episode was fantastic.

The internal conflicts of the characters in this season so far have been pretty interesting to watch because we haven't really seen this hesitation with Titans. However, there's that second layer that I'm looking for in this series where the connection with Titans is made. Since we've seen humans become Titans, the revelation begs the question of whether we can treat them differently from other humans.

Levi's doing a great job of keeping the questions in a grey area.

A couple trying to fly away in a balloon? I actually kind of want to see this story.

Hanebado Episode 4

I'm still having the hardest time watching this series. I want to enjoy it because the games look really good. They really do a good job of making me feel like I'm watching a real game of badminton. However, I'm having trouble with the characters in this series. I know they're going to develop into a team eventually, but they're all just annoyingly rude to each other. It's like the show validates the negative stereotypes typically associated with competitive people, and that really bothers me.

To her credit, Ayano's reaction to the game result is pretty believable. If she truly thinks that her mother left because she lost a game, it makes sense that she would be reluctant to admit defeat.

This scene completely surprised me. It was a lot funnier than I expected this series to be. Maybe this series can be lighthearted after all?

I guess the crazy is coming out again.
