Sora yori mo Tooi Basho Episode 7: Coming together

I was a little skeptical about this episode in the beginning, but I think it managed convince me by the end. At first, I thought it was just another representation of adults keeping their secrets. However, the episode seemed more like a representation of how your mind can focus in on the hints that verify the conclusion you find least favorable.

I kinda got the impression that the beginning of the episode was hammering in the issues with the expedition too much, but I think this evaluation wasn't fair. The main characters have come so far and they've nearly reached their destination. It makes sense that they would be very tuned in to any potential hiccup that could derail everything.

As a small note, I want to point out that I liked how Kanae was characterized here. She's introduced as the person in charge without being given a title. We naturally see how important she is without any need for exposition.

The parallels between the two expeditions are also pretty nice. For some reason, I had the sense that the original expedition was a more formal expedition. In many ways, it was, but it was still another attempt at a civilian expedition.

The ending of the episode was also pretty impressive. I had gotten the impression that the others on the expedition might have been going out to search for Takako or something unrelated. It was nice to see that they had a bond as much as main characters did. There's a sense that these characters are actually relevant and part of the story.

Plus, the fact that they're all members of the original expedition going out to continue their mission is an interesting development.
