Sora yori mo Tooi Basho Episode 5: Already time for Antarctica?

Again, I was really surprised with this episode. I was so prepared for an episode devoted to Megumi that I didn't really hit me that this episode was the actual starting point for the Antarctica trip. I'm glad that didn't drag on too much. Still, I was ready to write Megumi off as a simple jealous friend, but I ended up liking her story.

I'm a big fan of how Megumi's involvement in the story was handled. Her discontent was hinted already, but I liked that her involvement went back even further than this episode. When she told Mari about the rumors surrounding the trip, I was definitely second guessing myself on whether she was telling the truth. It was like a sense of mystery that I wouldn't have expected from this show.

Viewing the main characters through a mirror as Mari is reflecting on her recent actions...well played. I always enjoy the fact that this series doesn't seem to waste scenes.

I really can't say I fault Megumi for how she felt. She's right. It's great to feel like someone is relying on you, so I can understand why she always wanted to be the person Mari asked for advice.

Man, it really sucks when your targets can't figure out what you're doing, doesn't it?
