Houseki no Kuni Episode 10: That's a new one

I'm glad we got such an entertaining fight now that Phos is finally battle ready. For me, this episode was just great to look at and did a great job of exploring the relationship between Diamond and Bort. The chase scene also felt oddly horror-like while I was watching it. It was definitely something I wasn't expecting.

I was a bit curious about this line. Is this the first time that the categorization of Lunarians has been brought up? It seems weirdly late, but it's an interesting piece of the world.

I definitely liked how this scene displayed the level to which Diamond envied and idolized Bort. We usually see Diamond as the sweet, innocent character, but these lines do a good job of a showing the resentment that can't be completely hidden.

I'm not sure if I was supposed to see a special significance in the giant Lunarian that appears in this episode, but I sure enjoyed the extended fight. Bort's initial fight reminded me a lot of the cinematic giant boss fights I've seen in video games, which was nice to see. And Diamond's fight just clever overall, with the use of broken diamond pieces used out of necessity and such.

This cliffhanger's just mean, though. After what we just saw Diamond do, it would be pretty for the Lunarians to succeed in their abduction.

This jellyfish scene was just hilarious.

I didn't see Dia's line that Bort is always right as resentment or envy. Contrary to what it looked like at the start of the show, I don't think Dia wanted to be like Bort or better than her or anything like that. I think what Dia really wanted was to be worthy of being Bort's partner instead of being a burden to her. If Dia was upset about something, it was that Bort choose Phos instead, and if she envied someone, it was Phos for being a seemingly better partner to Bort than her. That's why she kept remembering that moment when Bort and Phos were walking side by side.

hmm...that's a fair way to see it. i agree that Dia's true wish was to be worthy of being Bort's partner. it's also true that Dia probably envied Phos, but i didnt feel like there was any resentment targeted towards Phos. i would even say i thought that the resentment was targeted towards Bort, either. rather, it seemed more like it was targeted inwards, that Dia disliked that Bort was the perfect gem that people (and the other gems) would normal attribute to the diamond

That's the thing, I don't think Dia gives a rat's ass about what people (other gems) think about Bort or herself.

Dia doesn't feel any resentment either. What she feels is frustration, and mostly at herself for not being able to measure up to Bort's expectations. Also, I didn't say that she resented Phos. I said she envied that Phos apparently made a better partner to Bort than she did. That's why she was constantly remembering that moment when Bort and Phos were walking side by side like true partners.
