Ao no Exorcist: Kyoto Fujouou-hen Episode 4: Mamushi's not the brightest student

It seems like the story is finally starting to move, but everything still feels way too slow. My impression of this episode isn't going to be anything new...I still think the episodes have too many unnecessary flashbacks that draw out the length of each scene.

Oh I remember this scene...from when I first saw it last week. Thanks for the flashback!

That guy's looking mighty suspicious right now. This scene is actually not bad. Since we didn't see the room from Juzou's perspective, it's easy to make the assumption that he took out the other Exorcists.

Eh...maybe I'm just being picky, but I feel like you could do so much better than just a giant red X to add comedy to this scene.

Me too, man.

It really sucks to be Rin, huh? Everyone blames him for everything.

Uhh, wasn't the point of splitting up the eyes to keep their power in check? Why would you let a single person possess both eyes? Even if he really is completely trustworthy, you don't generally want just a single point of failure.

Given that Rin ends up being two steps off screen, this feels like a cheap joke.

Is now really the time for this?

I don't particularly mind this...Rin sees himself in Suguro's behavior and doesn't want Suguro to make the same mistake he did.

Uhh...Kuro, buddy. What are you doing over there? This is a dramatic scene and you're diverting my attention.

Poor Kuro.

Manga Section

Only a couple of manga differences I want to point out this time: A couple of comedic scenes were thrown in to pad the run time. I've already pointed them out, so I won't go too much into it. In the manga, the scene were Juzou exits the elevator isn't included and the scene leads directly into discovering Mamushi, rather than cutting to Rin. This is a case where I prefer the anime version, because it adds a little bit more to the delivery of the reveal.

"t seems like the story is finally starting to move, but everything still feels way too slow." - I'm in complete agreement with you. I am glad that things are finally moving but we're at episode 4 and it really only feels like now we're getting to something relevant to this narrative arc. I feel that all of this teen angst could have either been glossed over faster or interwoven with the actual story rather than feeling like we just sat off to the side for three episodes and waited for people to deal with their issues.
