Chaos;Child First Impressions (1): Wow that was a lot

If you thought last week's post was behind...well, I'm going to get even more behind. I figured I'd check this series out despite the fact that I haven't seen Chaos;Head since it's supposedly a different story. That being said, they made it a point to have an "episode 0" to quickly go over the original before starting this sequel, so I'm not sure I'm totally convinced. A lot of the events in the first half didn't even make all too much sense until I looked up the plot of the original series.

Overall, I'm still not completely sure I'm qualified to talk about this series since I don't know all of the context, but we're going to try it anyway. Anyway, there's not too much surprise in this first episode. As all semicolon shows go, the first episode goes from 0 to 100 really quickly, but will likely go right back down to 0 again to gradually rev up from here.

Whoa...that was jarring. Thought I was watching Occultic;Nine again.

I'm not even going to ask what "noids" are and I'll just go with "huh?".

So much reading. Is this the recap of Chaos;Head everyone was talking about?

I always hate the "quickly flash between two frames a bunch of times" thing. Also, "so glad you could watch me totally kill this guy".

So...am I just getting the crash course? Because it saves me a lot of effort. I'm starting to get annoyed with this guy's voice, though.

Occultic;Nine just straight-up copied the "using electrical signals for mind control" thing from this series, didn't it? I have to admit, though, it's a premise that has a lot of potential if you can't trust that everything the main character perceives is reality.

I would say "maybe he's just looking at a translation of the paper in Japanese" if the heroine hadn't just commented that this is supposed to be in English. And don't try to say "he just used Google Translate on the paper". This clearly looks like a PDF and those don't cooperate.

I don't know if this is some big reveal later, but just a small thing. If the reporter had already identified the body as a woman, they wouldn't use a gender-neutral pronoun like "their" here.

Aaaand now we're here. Also, this somehow devolves into a general riot despite the fact that everyone is clearly just beating up one guy.

And so, the real episode begins! Also, does this intro sequence do anything other than give us a brief look at the characters? Can't you introduce them more naturally?

So, Takuru is the boy detective and this girl is the stalker that keeps tabs on him? You have my attention.

What? Run that by me again. I was completely not ready for this.

Well, I wasn't going to point out the similarity in their names, but the show went ahead and did it for me. Given that Chaos;Head seemed to hint at mind control, just how related is this sequel going to be?

Mountain View.

Urgh...people who film in portrait layout.

They're totally ignoring the other girl in this room, huh? What exactly is she doing, anyway?

That's a little creepy...

I was honestly expecting the "zoom and enhance" cliche.

Not suspicious at all.

Gasp! Fake shock!

Obligatory "Read the VN!" comment. I'm playing through Chaos;Head at the moment, and I have to wonder... how bad an adaptation did that have to be to get such a poor response? So far, I like the VN more than Steins;Gate xD

Fun^10Ă—Int^40 = Ir2 though! Rivals Euler's formula and Einstein's field equations in it's beauty xD

But there are multiple things that can happen depending on what you do! D:

Nah, I have enough on my plate right now. Currently juggling my honours thesis and trying to flesh out proposals for three potential future projects I could pursue. Plus I have to do a mathematical modelling project in the next two months, but the lecturer says that doing it on grand unified theories is unrealistic and he won't let me D: Maybe for my Masters dissertation though, I could explore the equation and how it kills the possibilities of the world? :D

I really had a hard time finishing Chaos;Head and when this started by just playing disconnected scenes from that mess of a show (and I know why they did it I just don't think they should have), I realised I really didn't want to put myself through Chaos;Child. Head was an absolute mess of ideas that barely told a cohesive story (and you could really just ignore 90% of everything that happened to get that story). Every review I've read of Child so far kind of confirms that this is just more of the same mess with new characters.
