Shuumatsu no Izetta Episode 5: And now they know...

I'm glad we got some more action in this week's episode. It made things a lot more interesting that last week's episode. I just really wish that the final scene in the episode hadn't happened. I'm surprised they're moving so quickly with revealing Izetta's weaknesses to the Germanians and I'm definitely curious to see what else they have in store if they're going to get that out of the way already.

Everything up to the last scene just felt perfect. Eylstadt had a plan for keeping Izetta's powers a secret, which would maybe work for a while. Meanwhile, the Germanian side had someone who was skeptical enough to realize that Izetta had a weakness, so he could be the one that put all of the pieces together. But instead, it looks like the secret's going to be spilled to a Germanian spy by that ridiculous character that I thought was a throwaway character. Sigh...

Something something coronation comment here.

I'm not very versed with retro tech, but I guess these are flash bulbs that die out easily in old cameras? Any particular reason they keep getting so much focus in this opening scene? Because I totally thought they were grenades at first.

I'm curious about this one. The medieval swords bent out of shape when hitting the tanks, but the lances pierce through just fine. Convenient story inconsistencies or is the top of the tank actually that weak?

Of all the things you'd want to show in a newspaper photo, you pick the explosion? You literally can't see anything. Also, is there any particular reason Izetta continues to use the medieval weaponry? It made sense in the first fight because they were low on supplies, but now they have the entire nation's backing. Give her like 10 copies of the rifle she's riding and let her fly around shooting stuff.

I really like this guy and how he reasoned this out. He's going to make things interesting. There's no way he'd miss the locations where Izetta can't use her powers.

Well, sooner or later Germania was going to hit a dead spot. Honestly, that was much sooner than I expected.

There's like one dude in the Royal Guard...sure. And what exactly is the plan here? A decoy Izetta? How exactly does that work?

I was going to say "she survives this somehow" but uhh...never mind. Why even have the trampoline and net?

I'm really shocked that this seems to be working. Feels like the kind of plan that requires too much precision to work correctly.

They really did jump straight into the dealing with a dead spot problem. I also expected that to come a bit later. That said, I liked the way they planned it out (even if something should have gone wrong with that plan - for instance one of the snipers missing the guns they were aiming at or one of the enemies actually getting a decent shot off at Izetta). But yeah, those two ought to be shot for having that conversation out in the open like that. Really, they were just asking for someone to overhear.

im just so upset at the fact that they had a perfectly legitimate way to get the secret out that wasnt...forced

Haha, why have the net? That cracks me up.

It was a good episode for demonstrating just what does and doesn't work about the series.

does seem a bit too much effort...
