Tales of Zestiria Episode 1: The real first one

So, this entire episode is effectively an extended version of the very first scene in the game, giving it a bit of context. Overall, we're like 10 minutes into the game. Given that the episode isn't a carbon copy of the OVA or the game, it might indicate that we're going to be seeing something a bit different while watching the anime. This is encouraging. Or this is an elaborate troll and every episode from next week on will be exactly the same as the game's story. I was hoping this week's episode would clear things up, but now I'm just more skeptical.

Still, having the previews show up as skits was a nice touch. It's a cool nod to the Tales fans.

The joke here is Alisha can't see the normin goofing off at her feet, but that's probably a nod to the game veterans. Also, I can't handle this level of screen time for Alisha. This entire first part of the episode is different from the game's beginning. Is this Ufotable's way of appeasing the people who played the game?

You can't see this, but I'm trying my best not to fangasm at the music playing in the background.

I don't remember Alisha being such a wimp. But hey...gotta let the normin get some good moments, right?

In the game, enemies fall from the ceiling, so...this is different.

This pedestal randomly starts moving with the power of plot convenience.

Oh look! It's the main character!

I'm having a hard time focusing in this part of the episode. It's not really the episode's fault, but with the combination of having seen the OVA and playing this part of the game, I'm just tired of seeing how much obsessed Sorey is.

What was your first clue?

Weird lightning? Better run towards it!

Mikleo falls first, but Sorey somehow ends up below him when he casts his spell? That's not how gravity works. Also, Mikleo's plan to save Sorey by hitting him with the water spell really shouldn't work.

Casually running across the bridge OF ICE.

Why are anime girls always scared of insects/arachnids/etc? D:

Yeah, I thought that he was planning to use the water to try and cushion Sorey's landing or something, but hitting him with it would just accelerate him... did the writer think that the time of the fall is what causes the damage so making him fall quicker would decrease that or something? lol

    bugs are scary? :D

my guess was "hey, if i create a pool of water underneath Sorey, he'll totally survive", which is just not how physics works...
