Mayoiga Episode 9: Best friendship ever

Well, this seems convenient. Still doesn't explain why everyone somehow forgot about him when he got separated from the group (maybe it was a joke?), but now we can finally find out who's behind all of this!

Ugh...this guy purposely answers this question ambiguously so someone has time to silence him before he gives away everything.

Ehh...she had plenty of opportunities to speak up in the mob scenario, but she chose to give excessively vague explanations. I don't give Masaki any sympathy on this one. Sure, everyone was already suspicious of her, but making the assumption that they wouldn't have listened to her if she had told the whole truth is a ridiculous way of thinking.

You see? This is what I'm saying. You say that everyone shouldn't go beyond the tunnel because it would be bad, but don't explain why it would be bad. And by saying that, you basically ensure that everyone will want to go beyond the tunnel.

I'm not sure what to make of this scene. It's revealed that Hayato can feel the bus shaking in response to the penguin's attacks, but then it's revealed that Hayato's own personal monster can be seen on the right side of the bus. Does this mean that Hayato and Mitsumune are each perceiving their own monsters? It would make more sense to check what Masaki's seeing/feeling.

I can't tell whether these are his actual thoughts or some other random effect of the village...

This isn't suspicious at all.

While Hayato has a point, it's hard to agree in this situation since we know Mitsumune's past. These kinds of "people don't change" speeches are much better on House.

Asian parents, am I right?

They called you...a what?

Is there a reason why the penguin is smaller here? It seems important.

These guys are really good at isolating themselves from each other. this actually supposed to be surprising at this point? I guess it's good on her for being the only character to figure this out so far.

More importantly, when exactly did Maimai get over her previous boyfriend? I feel like I haven't seen any indication of that so far. We haven't even seen her old boyfriend on screen yet...we've just been given the hint that he looks like Mitsumune.

No, deduction would be more appropriate here than theory...I think "hypothesis" is the best, though. I interpret the scenario as deduction was the method used to reach the hypothesis about the monster disappearing when you deal with your mental scars.

Someone on the proofreading team decided "hey, wouldn't Maimai seem so much more accessible if she spoke in slang?" and we got dialogue like this.

I there any reason Jack is attacking the girls here? Honestly, I'm starting to think that he was put there to make the unknown savior look good.

I've seen a lot of speculation that this is Reiji and I agree that it's the easiest explanation. Plus, Reiji's face was similarly obscured in Masaki's flashbacks.

Honestly, I feel like I'm not even trying to figure out what the show's point is anymore...just along for the ride.

I also gave up trying to figure out a point to this anime. Characters do stuff and act weird and maybe they'll eventually tell me why but I shouldn't expect it to make sense. Unfortunately, I'm committed to seeing this through to the end at this point.

I find myself loving this anime just as much as I hate it. So many things are completely illogical and the characters are terrible, but there's something about it that is compelling me to enjoy it... "just along for the ride" is pretty much the perfect way to sum it up my feelings too, really.
