Kara no Kyoukai Movie: Mirai Fukuin

This is a side story in the Kara no Kyoukai series that follows Ryougi Shiki as she battles against the Bomberman, a terrorist who can see the future. As usual with a Kara no Kyoukai movie, the fighting is restricted to a small portion of the movie. Unfortunately, the battle in this movie is practically non-existent, so expect just a lot of talking from this. Honestly, I thought the most intense scene in the movie was when they showed the scene of the Bomberman throwing a soda can through a crowd into the trash.

In addition to the story with Shiki and the Bomberman, there are interlaced scenes with Kokutou Mikiya as he talks with Seo Shizune, a girl who can also see the future. These scenes seemed just like extra and didn't really seem to add all that much to the movie. If anything, they just demonstrated a different type of future-sight, but I saw little reason for her existence.

That being said, I was really intrigued by the discussion of future-sight in this movie. It introduces the idea of two different types of future-sight, both of which actually sound very down-to-earth and less supernatural. The first type is prediction, which is essentially seeing a future based on subconscious input from your surroundings. The second type is premonition, which is basically seeing a future and then carrying it out with your own actions. They were very interesting concepts in an otherwise slow movie. These actually play a large role in the battle against the Bomberman.

And then, of course, there's Mana, but I won't dwell too much on her. She's basically just fan service. Music of the show was great as I would expect. There's also a pretty interesting scene at the very end of the movie which I could only interpret as a flashback of the second Shiki (the one who disappeared) talking to a fortuneteller who predicts her death. Compared to other movies in the Kara no Kyoukai franchise, I'd say this movie was probably about average...maybe a bit better if you find future-sight as interesting as I do.

I hate that we won't see anymore of this series, but Id say this one was a bit below average. It wasn't bad, but it wasn't nearly as interesting as some of the other movies.

I did find the future sight concepts interesting, but ultimately the theories behind the concept to be very weak.

Prediction makes sense as an option but premonition/fixation does not to me. The latter is basically the equivalent of being insane or fanatical rather than a supernatural ability.
