Sword Art Online Episode 5

Gah...that whole time, I was thinking that Yoruko must be behind everything because of how she was talking and acting...then she goes and gets killed herself. I found it weird how she talked about Griselda almost like she was envious of her...but I guess I was wrong (unless she faked her death...the fact that it wasn't a duel is very suspicious). But in that case, who is actually behind this all? The "ghost of Griselda" thing is clearly a panicked theory to distract everyone.

The bit about Griselda's death is a bit shaky...possible she didn't die. Or it could be Occam's Razor and Grimrock is the guy behind it all. Another decently obvious choice is that one of the other members is trying to frame Grimrock. Finally, it could be someone who found out about the incident with Griselda and is using it to their advantage. Yoruko was such a good suspect, but now I have a ton of possibilities that are equally likely.

Another interesting thing is the idea of the sleep PK. How are people ever safe? Even in an inn, can't a PK just sneak in through the window or something and PK with this duel business? Sounds like a design flaw to me, especially to a game that is designed to be "fair" as Kirito says it.

Next week, I suppose the rest of this "mystery segment" of Sword Art will unfold (genre change go go)...the episode title once again suggests the ghost idea, but as I said before, I find this incredibly unlikely. Final thing I want to note: it almost seems like death is a natural occurrence...you'd think people would be more paranoid. Have they become numb to it all?

"Have they become numb to it all?"

Considering they've been trapped in SAO for almost 2 years already, I'd say it's logical. I don't think anyone who aren't able to adapt/accept the potential of death will be able to survive this long as they would probably be 1) driven insane 2) driven to suicide 3) tried to fight against it but ultimately fails due to the intense fear as Sachi in ep3 have shown us. So naturally what's left of the population has either accepted it as part of their lives or at least learned to cope with it (by not being paranoid). Whether it's a good thing or a bad thing is up for debate, but humans are very adaptive species.

Oh and about the inn part, they never explained it properly in the anime. Inn rooms are suppose to be fully isolated space and the only way for anyone who is not the owner to get in is to be invited. The only real way to "intrude" is eavesdropping, as shown in the previous episode. Which is why the safest place in SAO is your own resident/inn room.

    that's true...it's almost sickening, wouldn't you think?

ahh, I see...that's why sleep PK is a big deal. Makes sense.

the pk in town and safe area doesn't allow you to die so the rules are still fair....

the bloody music and the silhouette make me think i'm watching a freaking horror suspense anime instead of sword art online i adapt to the horror and expect a freaking ghost to come out of nowhere or something pop up on the screen(possibly pushing the boundaries of 2d and somehow tries to grab me).....

though apparently the weapon allow to instantly kill something as yoruko got 1hit killed by that knife and even bypass the safe zone....

hmm though if it is some kind of method that everybody can use the people will pretty much use it to pk everyone on the safe zone...

and asuna is amazingly different than the one in the manga....

yeah, the way Yoruko died is really suspicious. That's why I was wondering if it was faked. There was no way she accepted a duel and they must have been in a safe area. But her avatar shattered, so I dunno...she should be dead...

I find it weird for there to be some new method of PK. They gotta make it a challenge for them, right?

no...definitely hate the ghost theory. Personally, I'm trying to work with "Yoruko didn't actually die and she's the one doing everything", but that's not a great theory either........GAH

well other theory included a.tank kill the guild master and the husband try to kill the trio... b.someone who propose to sell it is doing it all... c.someone random kill the guild master and someone from the guild kill the rest of the member... d.the guild leader didn't die and have the ring...

well i don't see how a plan that include you dying in the middle of the plan is a good idea....

    a) plausible b) there were only three people who wanted to sell it and two of them are dead...the last one was sitting in the room when one of the others died c) always a possibility, but seems too random d) i was trying to work off this theory, but we still have to figure out she killed Yoruko

there is actually 5 who wanted to sell it 3 wanted to keep it 2 of them died 1 left.....

but the one who propose keeping it is probably holding some kind of secret like they are the one that start it all by killing the guild master and the rest of the guild....

hmm sword art online for a second there the story fit a horror anime more than action....

long lost item, internal conflict, silhouette, music, and somebody getting killed mysteriously....

as for the speculation how is yoruko still alive when she got shattered to pieces....

lol...well, it's not quite eerie enough for horror, but I guess the label could work. I mean, Tasogare Otome x Amnesia was labeled horror...

yeah, I'm trying to rationalize her avatar shattering...

hmm she isn't dead and it was all just an illusion ? an item or skill that allow you to manipulate illusion... possible?

well best shot are the husband trying to kill them out of pure hatred of something... though how she died is none of my concern anymore she died like the other guild member while it isn't possible to died in safe zone...

    take your pick...

like an item that mimics the avatar and creates a double. Used for pulling mobs in a fight or something. Seems more plausible than an item that breaks the rules of the safe area.

When Kirito was about to stab himself with the sword in his hand he could have had "the" clue to solve the mystery, but Asuna stopped him for the sake of dragging the arc to two episodes instead of one.

Watched enough anime mystery to guess where it is going, but lets just say it not "supernatural" aka ghost and what happened is all within the rules of the online game.

Same thoughts here, the game must be broken completely if it allows a random player to force an action like a duel to another sleeping player. Who were the developer working on this? :|

Well, to be fair, someone explained how the inn is safe, but yeah...that sleep thing is kinda messed up. Trying to think of a way to balance it, though. Other people shouldn't be able to see your menus? A way to turn off duel mode?

In a normal game, people can't force any action other than PVP outside the city on another player. Some games allow it in the city, but garrison the city with fierce high level guards to make it hard to do...:P

To me, just ignoring any interference by other players would be fair...

Well, in a normal game, a player shouldn't have any control over another player's game input. But we're talking a VR game, so things become kinda different.

Like, the thing about sleep PK is that the game basically thinks the player is trying to do this stuff.

The game should be able to distinguish between willing or not willing player actions. At least if they're trying to make a product that will be allowed for selling, if such a product (even with log-out functionality) would be shipped any controlling body would just stop the sales...:P

How's the game supposed to tell? Sounds like you want it to read intentions, which is usually a tricky part of the mind.

There should be aome kind of protection for the rooms. I didn't expect her to seriously get stabbed through the window or fall down to the street. With the first comment saying they're isolated, it makes even less sense. I hope she wasn't behind the first killing and faked her death, I would hate that ending.

We need to know more about the abilities and scenario to really work it out. Until next episode...
