Space Brothers First Impressions

So I haven't decided whether or not I want to blog this, but I've heard a lot of good things about it so I got curious. The story introduces two brothers (of course), Hibito and Mutta Nanba, who see some sort of UFO as children and decide to become astronauts. Hibito is the younger brother, but always outshines his brother Mutta. I really like the way they used to flashback. Rather than giving out all of the information, they introduce it as sort of "remembering your dream" for Mutta.

Mutta is the type of character I can relate to, being an older brother myself. I've always felt the pressure of a better-performing younger brother (I don't live with my parents, though thankfully). Of course, we're still young, so it remains to be seen which of us will become more successful, I've always had a bit of an inferiority complex when it comes to my brother, so this show really speaks to me. It's nice that the show has such a likable main character.

The opening theme sounds nice and relaxed, but has a good beat behind it. The animation of it has way too many rainbows in it, though. Personally, I think the ending theme sounds a lot nicer (although the singer's voice pushes it a bit). I was a bit wary about the animation style when I was glancing at this show before, but now that I've seen the episode itself, I think that it looks fine. The show is labeled as slice-of-life, but it has a clear direction, so I think it will turn out being very interesting.
